The story of RW JR, a new Verdure,
By invitation of Masterly The Hague Workingbert interpreted a scenery painting by Jacob van Ruisdael with three dominant pine trees. In this interpretation of Van Ruisdael’s piece, Workingbert focused on the drama of ‘vanitas’ motifs such as the big pine trees and the dark sky.
We used a photogram technique by exposing light on wilted leaves and flowers and painted with developing fluid. In this way we give our take on the vanitas theme. Leaves of outgrown asparges are enlarged as a reference to the enormous pine trees.
The precise and miniature painted leaves inspired Workingbert to design a new and contemporary version of a Verdure tapestry by digitally printing an abstract reference to historic and traditional nature-themed wall upholstery and wallpapers by using spots and stains.
